Sweet Season
It goes like this:
I'm participating in a songwriting challenge with some of my homeschool friends. Every week, we receive a prompt via email containing a subject for that week's song. A couple of weeks ago, the challenge was, "Write a song including the word, 'Snowflake.'"
"Great!" I thought. Lovely word, is it not? And, with all the crazy weather that's been happening recently, I definitely shouldn't have been lacking inspiration.
I was.
Forget brainstorming and choosing the best idea. I couldn't even come up with one. Then, when I did, it wasn't a song.
So, dear blog readers, to you I bequeath this work of my brain, as a sort of consolation to myself for failing that week's challenge. Whether this is to your fortune or misfortune, you decide. :)
Snowflake on my tongue*
*Do you see how I got that word out of the way from the very beginning? ;)

Snowflake on my tongue*
Wind sings in my ears
Every winter brings
Enjoyment of its own.
Trees enrobed in ice
Sparkle in the sun
Each one, oh, so bright
And I just close my eyes.
Smile.
On my tongue a
New snowflake has arrived.

Tomorrow I'll Wear Sweatpants: A Poem
I am currently recovering from having my wisdom teeth pulled. I am offering you that information ahead of time, not only so that you can understand parts of the poem that I am about to share, but also so that those of you who are fully rested and not on pain medication know why I am in a frame of mind to share it. So, without further ado, I present the poem that I wrote less than five minutes ago. :)
Tomorrow I'll Wear Sweatpants
Tomorrow I'll wear sweatpants,
'Cause I don't really care
If people think I look lazy
Because of what I wear.
My plan to wear these sweatpants
Is really quite okay.
Even if I felt all right,
I'd wear them anyway.
Sweatpants are appropriate
To wear around my home.
So I will stay quite comfortable
While I'm choosing not to roam.
My soft and stretchy sweatpants
Will feel so very nice-
Kind of like my jaw feels
When I hold it up to ice.
Yes, tomorrow I'll wear sweatpants
While lounging in my house,
Because all of my uncomfortableness
Is reserved for my mouth
(Epilogue)
Last night I thought my sweatpants
Were the way to go.
Today I say, "Who needs to change?"
P.J.s are comfortable, you know.

An apology
I am yet alive
In case you had been doubting
Very kind readers
I must confess that
Geometry has taken
Over many thoughts
I cannot promise
That I will be back promptly
But surely I'll try
Thank you, dear Molly,
For your timely reminder
Although unheeded.
I'm really sorry! :)

Finish the Ballad #1
I thought we'd do something a bit interactive today. Below is an original first stanza of a poem. Eventually, I'm hoping that it will become an entertaining story when y'all start commenting. Are you ready? Here we go...
Her mother would say,
"Do not eat it that way!"
But she merely tossed her blond curl.
Whether or not the cake or the girl was wearing pearls, I'm not sure. I guess we'll find out.
There was an unusual girl
Who would eat cherry cake wearing pearlsHer mother would say,
"Do not eat it that way!"
But she merely tossed her blond curl.
Whether or not the cake or the girl was wearing pearls, I'm not sure. I guess we'll find out.

A response
I Have a Demanding Sister
My sister is making demands
For some pictures that she'd like to see.
And, with the way that it stands,
Meeting them is all up to me.
I could boycott and say, "Go ahead.
Try to post them online for yourself!"
But, after what I've just read,
I might want to do it myself.
P.S. I love you, Allison! You are now a successful motivator.
